Rehearsals
Amsterdams Jeugd Muziektheater
The rehearsals of the Amsterdams Jeugd Muziektheater take place weekly on Wednesday afternoons and Friday evening in the WG-terrein in Amsterdam Oud-West.
Next school year a new group will start: the first teen group! This group is for young people who have ambition to play on the big stage.
Explanation groups
In the 2025-2026 school year, AJM will work with three groups:
- Group A is for children from group 6.
- Group B is for children from group 7.
- Group C is for children from group 8 and secondary school.
Group A | Wednesday afternoon
The children of group 6 rehearse on Wednesday afternoon from 13:45 to 15:15 PM. This group will start on October 1, 2025. The focus is mainly on training the disciplines of singing, acting and dancing.
In the first semester we will work towards a Christmas performance. In the second semester we will start working on our own performance. The course year will be concluded at the end of the school year by means of a musical theatre performance that is open to an outside audience. In this the children can show what they have learned in the past year.
It is possible that in the last months group A and B will be combined for a longer rehearsal time. Please take this into account if your child has other hobbies. Groups A and B belong to the preparatory group.
Group B | Wednesday afternoon
The children in group 7 rehearse on Wednesday afternoons from 3:30 to 5:00 PM. This group will start on October 1, 2025. At the beginning of the year, the focus will be on personal development, group bonding and training in the disciplines of singing, acting and dancing. It is possible that elements of the performance are already being worked on. In the second semester, all time will be spent on developing the performance. It is possible that certain children will have to rehearse more or less based on the planning of studying the material.
It is possible that in the last months group A and B will be combined for a longer rehearsal time. Please take this into account if your child has other hobbies. Groups A and B belong to the preparatory group. Has your child already played in an AJM production and would he/she like to rehearse with group C? Then your child can audition for this.
Group C | Friday evening
The children of group 8 and the secondary school rehearse on Friday evenings from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This group will start on September 29, 2025. At the beginning of the year, the focus will be on personal development, group bonding and training of the disciplines of singing, acting and dancing. It is possible that elements of the performance are already being worked on. In the second semester, all time will be spent on developing the performance. It is possible that certain children will have to rehearse more or less based on the planning of studying the material. It is also possible that extra singing and acting rehearsals are planned for the major roles.
When children have the ambition and discipline to put more work and time into the performance, we can discuss the possibilities. Please do so before the role allocation. It would be nice if they already thought about how to fill in this extra task.
Only the children of group C will play in the big theatre performance at the end of the school year. It is possible that children from group A and B will be cast for a role in the performance. They will then move to group C. Should they want to participate in both group A/B and C, an appropriate price will be agreed upon.

Planning
We rehearse from October to July. There are no rehearsals during school holidays.
We work with a rehearsal schedule* that is planned at least one month in advance. This way, the children have insight into what is expected of them and what they need to know for a particular rehearsal.
It is possible that you will not have to attend certain rehearsals or that you will not have to attend at all. This gives you as a family the opportunity to take time off when you have the opportunity. If you are scheduled, you are expected to be present.
* This planning only applies to group C. Group A and B will in principle work with the entire group during the rehearsal time.
What do you need
You make sure you have your stuff with you to every rehearsal. What is expected of you:
- Folder (with or without holes, for song lyrics, game texts, assignments, information, script and other material)
- Pencil and eraser (for taking notes. You can attach this to the folder so you always have it with you.)
- Water bottle
- Comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily.
Lax Vox
During the choir and singing rehearsals, the Lax Vox method will also be used. Ideally, a Lax Vox tube will be used. You can purchase this yourself or it will be purchased for you. The costs for this are €5. Please contact us.
It is also possible to perform the exercises with an Air Up bottle. However, preference is given to a Lax Vox tube. The costs for this are also much lower than those of an Air Up bottle.
Performances
It is possible that a performance is planned for multiple groups (A, B and C). It is possible that a joint (extra) rehearsal is planned for this.
