Rehearsals

The rehearsals for Amsterdams Jeugd Muziektheater take place weekly on Wednesday afternoons and Friday evenings.

A new group is starting this coming school year: the first junior production group! This group is for children who have the ambition to perform on the big stage.

In addition, we have added a new location. Please check carefully where the group you are interested in rehearses.

Locations

The Amsterdams Jeugd Muziektheater has two locations in Amsterdam Oud-West.

Explanation groups

In the 2026-2027 school year, AJM will work with three groups:*

• Group A (Preparation group) is for children from group 6.
• Group B (Junior Production group) is for children from group 7 and 8.
• Group C (Youth Production group) is for children from secondary school.

Preparation group (group A)

The children of the Preparatory Group rehearse on Wednesday afternoons from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM on WG-terrein. This group starts on September 30, 2026.

The focus is primarily on training the disciplines of singing, acting, and dancing in a playful manner.

The children of Group A are creating their own performance, in which every actor is given the space to grow. In addition to their own performance, Group A will participate as an ensemble in the Junior Production Group's theatre production. This performance will take place in May 2027.

Junior Production group (group B)

The Junior Production Group is a new group starting this coming school year. This group is intended for disciplined children who have the ambition to perform in a theatrical production.

An audition is required to join the Junior Production Group. During the audition, the children's natural qualities are assessed. We also look for a suitable role for the performance, taking the child's wishes into account.

The Junior Production Group starts on September 2, 2026. In the first semester, we rehearse on Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Starting in January 2027, rehearsals will be from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM. The rehearsals will take place at the new location at Meneer de Wit (Center for Art and Culture).

The Junior Production Group's theatrical performance will take place in May 2027. They will be supported by the Preparatory Group for this.

In addition to their own production, the Junior Production Group is allowed to participate in the Youth Production Group's theatrical performance. This will take place in July 2027. Rehearsals for this performance take place at the normal rehearsal time. In addition, during the final weeks, the children may rehearse with the Youth Production Group on Friday evenings at the WG-terrein.

Youth Production group (group C)

The Youth Production Group is intended for disciplined young people who have the ambition to perform in a semi-professional theatre production. The teenagers in the Youth Production Group rehearse on Friday evenings from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the WG-terrein. This group starts on September 4, 2026.

An audition is required to join the Youth Production Group. During the audition, the children's natural qualities are assessed. We also look for a suitable role for the production during the audition, taking the child's wishes into account.

What do you need

You ensure that you have your belongings with you at every rehearsal. What is expected of you:

• Folder (with or without holes, for lyrics, game texts, assignments, information, script and other material)
  
• Pencil and eraser (for taking notes. You can attach this to the folder so you always have it with you.) 
  
• Water bottle
• Non-slip socks
• Comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely.
  

Lax Vox

During choir and vocal rehearsals, the Lax Vox method will also be used. Ideally, a Lax Vox tube is used. You can purchase this yourself, or it can be purchased for you. The cost for this is €5. Please contact us.

It is also possible to perform the exercises using an Air Up bottle. However, a Lax Vox tube is preferred. The cost of this is also much lower than that of an Air Up bottle
